The Ghana Network is a platform for companies, business associations, UN agencies, NGOs and trade unions to learn about and promote CSR and ethical business standards.
The Global Compact was launched in Ghana in July 2002 by the former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama. The Network serves as a focal point of co-ordination and communication for its members and its key goals are:
•    To promote the Global Compact principles throughout Ghana.
•    To enable participants to share and exchange practice and experience.
•    To help promote and support the Global Compact worldwide

HUMAN RIGHTS

The first two principles of the UN Global Compact, which are derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are:

  • Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
  • Principle 2: Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
LABOUR

The Global Compact's labour principles are derived from the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (1998):

  • Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
  • Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
  • Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
  • Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
ENIVIRONMENT

The UN Global Compact’s environment principles are derived from the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development.

  • Principle 7: Business should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
  • Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility, and;
  • Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
ANTI-CORRUPTION

The Global Compact Anti-Corruption principle is derived from the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

  • Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery
