The UN Global Compact Network Ghana hosted its maiden CEOs Breakfast Meeting on 20th February 2024 at the Ghana Chamber of Mines in Accra. The objectives for convening this high-level gathering were to introduce the UN Global Compact’s Forward Faster Initiative; give participants the opportunity to discuss progress made on the SDGs in their businesses and sectors; engage them in identifying challenges in achieving these goals; and to introduce CEO-specific opportunities available within the UN Global Compact this year.
The meeting opened with a networking session for participants. This was followed by opening remarks from the Board Chairman, Mr. Sulemanu Koney. After this the Executive Director, Mr. Tolu Lacroix made a presentation on the theme “Moving Forward Faster to 2030: Business Leadership for Ambitious, Credible Corporate Action”. This included insights from the 12th United Nations Global Compact-Accenture CEO Study, the SDG Stocktake Report, and the Report on Business Leadership in Times of Crisis which is a collection of insights from Chief Executive Officers into successes, challenges, and areas for future focus. He also introduced the ForwardFaster Initiative and called upon participants to fast track their sustainability efforts and to act now by joining the Initiative. The Forward Faster Initiative is a global platform for ambitious credible action guiding companies on where to make the biggest, fastest impact for 2030. This initiative addresses 51 areas of action namely, gender equality, climate action, living wage, water resilience and finance and investment, which have been selected because they have the power to accelerate progress across all 17 Global Goals and are where the private sector can make the biggest, fastest impact by 2030.
